Prescription for Love: Ellen + Jon

Ellen and Jon met at work the summer between her graduation from college and beginning of medical school in Denver, Colorado. After just four months of dating, Ellen was on her way to medical school with her uncertainty of whether such a new relationship could go the distance. But, true to his word, Jon visited Ellen in Denver once a month… for three years!!! And with every flight, their relationship took off until the day Jon proposed on stage in Denver at a Jim Bianco concert, one of their favorite artists.

So now they were closer to getting married, but not any closer to one another. Ellen went to work trying to schedule some of her 4th year medical school rotations in Chicago, where she was interviewing. After a lot of time and effort, she was finally matched at Loyola University Medical Center and reunited with her soon-to-be husband.

Ellen and Jon said “I Do” June 2, 2012 at the Chicago Cultural Center, the historic venue they had been seeking. The couple wanted an “urban classic wedding with a unique and personal twist” so they approached every detail with their style in mind. Case in point – Ellen’s gorgeous bridal look! Ellen chose the Haute Bride-Oval Freshwater Pearl Chandelier Earrings and the Ti Adoro Jewelry-Vintage Cuff.

The bridesmaids bouquets were designed with a vintage brooch pinned inside while the bride’s bouquet was beautifully wrapped in lace and strung with charms. The charms included necklaces, cuff links and photos of the people in their lives who meant the most to them and weren’t there to share in the couple’s wedding day.

Ellen gifted her bridesmaids with the Haute Bride-Teardrop earring in Greige that looked fantastic with their plum dresses!

The chuppah incorporated the mother of the bride’s lace wedding dress, with pieces of lace draped at the front and accented on the bows.
One of the couple’s favorite artists, Lyle Motley, created a custom oil painted Ketubah for the bride and groom that incorporated the tree of life symbolism. A true piece of art that will be displayed in their home for many happy years to come.
The placecards were vintage library cards that had been hand dipped in tea for an aged look. They were arranged in rows around a beautifully flowered manzanita tree.
The wedding cake was topped with statuettes, handcrafted from milktea, that stood on a pattern of the Chicago Cultural Center’s iconic dome and resembled a piece of art by their Ketubah artist, Lyle Motley.
Ellen surprised Jon with a groom’s cake featuring his “mascot”, Animal from the Muppets. Jon’s a drummer and a Muppets fan so this cake couldn’t have been more perfect (and cute!). When the couple had their wedding cake tasting, they knew they wanted red velvet but still had to select a frosting flavor to pair it with. Jon fell in love with mint green but Ellen saved their wedding cake from a Christmas-esque fate. In the end though Jon still got the unusual flavor combination in his Animal cake.

Ellen and Jon wanted their wedding to exemplify class with a contemporary twist and we think it did just that!
